Abstract: | The purpose of the Random Group Experimental Study was to find out the effect of yogic practices on selected risk factors among middle aged women suffering with hypothyroidism. It was hypothesized that there would be significant differences on selected physical physiological bio-chemical hormonal and psychological variables among middle aged women suffering with hypothyroidism due to Yogic practices with and without diet modifications group than the Control group and between yogic practices with diet modifications group and Yogic practices group alone; For the purpose of study, 45 middle aged women suffering with hypothyroidism were selected at random by using randomized control sampling method from Chennai city and their age was ranged from 40 to 50 years only. The selected subjects were divided into three groups i.e., Experimental group A (Yogic practices with diet modifications), Experimental group B (Yogic practices only) and Control group C. Each group consists of 15 subjects. Experimental group A underwent Yogic practices with diet modifications and experimental group B underwent Yogic practices training alone for 12 weeks and the control group did not undergo any treatment but were in active rest. Pre and Post tests were done duly. The pre and post test scores were statistically analysed by using Analysis of co-variance (ANCOVA) to find out the significant differences among the groups. Scheffe s post hoc test was used to find out the paired mean differences among the experimental groups. The test of significance was fixed at 0.05 level of confidence. The results of the study showed that there were significant differences on all the risk factors positively due to Yogic practices with and without Diet Modifications. Hence Yogic practices with diet modifications are good for middle aged women suffering with hypothyroidism. newline |
